On ADs, so how will I know if HRT is really helping me?
« on: August 15, 2014, 06:31:45 PM »

I have been on ADs for 6 months ever since I started suffering from almost constant PMS and bad anxiety. But's it's only now that my GP and I now suspect my problems are being caused by being peri menopausal.

I have seen a gynaecologist at a specialist clinic and even though my bloods have been normal, because I have a history of PMS and had PND, and close female relatives had an early menopause, she has clinically diagnosed me as peri menopausal. She wants to start me on oestrogen patches and Medina coil.

But how will I know it's working when I'm still taking ADs? I'm scared to stop the ADs as I felt do dreadful with anxiety before. Will the HRT stop the anxiety? I would love to come off the ADs as they make me feel foggy and I can't concentrate, but they have stopped the anxiety and low mood.

I just don't know what to do. Has anyone come off ADs in favour of starting HRT and has it worked?

You can use both quite successfully. Once you have settled on HRT then perhaps you could try coming off your AD. Lots of women on the forum are happy to stay on both long term.
As long as you start to feel better. That's the really important thing.
