This is the type of thing I meant, used in projection rooms e.g. when people have cinema rooms in their house.  I just picked up this photo on Google images.  The blind unravels into a channel at either side so no light leakage.

thank you for that!  My double window is in the middle of the room so any fixings of blinds has to be above the window or in the recess.
I'm tempted to get someone to come and look but they charge up to £75 for that (London  ::)).
