Depression monthly

13 years after a full hysterectomy, can someone still get monthly hormonal fluctuations which cause low mood and depression, Im asking for a friend, she is wondering whether conti HRT would be beneficial, thanks

I don't think you can take coni hrt after a hysterectomy. It would have to be oestrogen only.

Thanks I thought conti was just oestrogen and sequi is 2 weeks oestrogen and then 2 weeks oestrogen and progesterone

No conti is progesterone and oestrogen combined for post menopause

My mistake sorry I will advise her to go and get oestrogen only thanks for your help, has anyone else had these sort of symptons she is very depressed and it seems to be montly Im hoping HRT will sort her out

I think most women now who have a hysterectomy are given oestrogen so I am sure it will help her to take it if she goes and discusses it with her doctor.

It's unlikely she will get monthly fluctuations as these are linked to ovarian function, but low oestrogen is renowned for causing low mood and depression.

It is quite concerning that she wasn't given oestrogen, depending on how old she was when she had her hysterectomy, and if she is over 60 she may encounter resistance to being prescribed it for the first time.

Following full hysterectomy, testosterone levels also drop abruptly and this has also been linked to low mood, and some docs do give this also after total hysterectomy.
