oestrogel pumps = ??

HI,
Can anyone offer advice as to how many pumps = 50mcg of oestrogel a day?
Cannot get my oestrodot patches atm so I'm topping up with gel.
Thanks for any help with this,

If you use 2 pumps of gel you will be getting 1.5mg of gel. So one pump would be half of that.

Hi 2cats
We have tried to discuss this before and it is very tricky because the dosage and serum levels are presented in different ways for both products!
From the data given in the SPC for each ( summary of product characteristics), if my understanding is correct, I would estimate that 2 pumps of oestrogel give half as much again estradiol than Estradot 50 ie two pumps gives one and a half times the amount of estradiol. This is based on what is given for the maximum and avergae serum levels at "steady state".
However this can be variable depending on the size of area you spread it on (so I understand), due to differences in drying and absorption, so I would just go for the two pumps (maybe a bit less if it's possible to do this?) and see what happens. If you notice any side effects from sudden increase in oestrogen then see if you can use a bit less! I would say one and a half pumps - but of course it is not a precise thing due to variation between women and probably with the product too!

Thanks Hurdity. It's very confusing - especially as the dr couldn't advise me either, when I first got it to top up patch if I needed to.
I've not had a patch on seen tues and the last couple of days I've felt quite weepy - something that has been 'cured' since hrt patches kicked in. Not sure if it's a coincidence though?? I'm not upset about anything - this lovely weather is great etc so can't think why I've gone all emotional again ...
I've been putting the gel on in the morning and the evening - about 1.5 pumps each time.

I used to use 2 pumps of oestrogel, but like I said in other post, wasn't getting the relief. I was put onto 50 mcg estradot patches. Meno specialist said that 2 pumps was equivalent to 37.5 mcg, so on that basis, maybe 3 pumps would be nearer the 50 mcg patch you are on.
Daft question, is your gel still in date?

Not daft to mention date at all! Went and checked straightaway and it's fine till 2016. The info about 3 pumps is really useful though so thank you.
Did you put it on in one go or am and eve?
Thanks

I always put on at night, as didn't have time in morning to allow it to dry. Never used 3 pumps, just the 2. Meno specialist thought it easier to change to patches instead. But I suppose you could split am/pm or 2 arms & a leg or vice versa. We never actually had that conversation. I sympathise trying to find the optimum amount though. I was only on the 50 mcg patch for about 6 months, before weaning myself down to 37.5, now half a 25. Not wanting to give that half up though.
