changing the patch
« on: April 22, 2014, 05:59:01 PM »

Hi all

I have been on Estradot now for nearly 4 months, at first 50mcg,  after seeing the meno consultant , and a blood test he increased it to 100mcg for which I increased it slowly by putting on 75mcg, ( with the help of you lovely ladies advice) Its  now been my 3rd 100mcg patch , now to the point , was hoping once on the new dose of HRT  things would get better , my stomach issues have not been too bad by after tea last night I had real bad nausea and then while in bed I woke up with a real bad hot flush ,felt sick and then was sick and today feeling yuck and have no energy,  I have been changing the patch on Sundays and then Thursday but someone side its wrong it should be Sundays and Wednesdays, can anyone help please and how long should the new dose take to work please, so sorry for keep coming on here and moaning but I have no other people to ask  :)

It's 3.5!days for each patch so if you change Sunday morning you re change Wednesday night. If Sunday night then it's Thursday morning!! I also started at 50 and then gradually increased to 100 but felt just awful on it - soo tired I literally couldn't do anything and very nervy. I had my estrogen levels checked and they had jumped from 18 to 230 to 677! I have now reduced back down to a 50 and a third of another 50 and have gone to daily use of progesterone. Give it a little longer but if you continue to feel bad consider reducing, maybe back to 75.  It's possible you may just have a bug though ...

If the pack says Sun/Wed then perhaps do that?

Limpy  Thanks for your reply, looking back to when I first started them it was a Thursday,  so does that mean  what I have been doing Thurs/Sun is right or shall I change it tomorrow night , dont want to upset things but I am confused  :-\

I just change mine on Thursday night when I go to bed and then Sunday night when I go to bed because I began to use it on a Thursday. I've always done it this way. It says on my packet Thurs/Sun, Fri/Mon, Sat/Tues, Sun/Weds, Mon/Thurs, Tues/Fri, Weds/Sat.  You stick to the same routine all the time so depending on which day you began the patch this decides when the changing day is. There is no need to go into half days.

Thursday and Sunday is right.

Perhaps it's a bit strong for you. Too much oestrogen makes me feel very sick.
Maybe cut a bit off the 100 for a few weeks and that might get you accustomed to it.

Maybe 100 will always be too strong. Afraid it's just a case to try and see if your body will accept this.

Like Taz says, stick to the day you started the patch, so Thursday and Sunday is right.
Going onto half days would do my head in!

If the 100 doesn't settle down try cutting a bit off like Honeybun suggests. But give it a little longer to see if your problems settle down.

Half days is actually very easy! It doesn't change so it's exactly the same thing to remember!! This is how I was told to do it by my specialist - Monday morning, Thursday night - pretty easy!!

I do Wednesday morning and a Saturday morning. Take patch off, have shower and get dried, put patch on. It works for me. It takes a while for levels to drop anyway so half a day here or there makes no difference. After all one patch is on for three days and the other four.

I do the same as Honeyb, Wednesday and Saturday mornings. That way I can apply patch to showered dried skin.

For years I've done Fri night and Mon night but now when I remember I do Friday morning and then I forget, and sometimes get out of synch as also remembering the Orthogynest pessaries Mon and Thurs night, and then every 6-7 weeks the vag Utrogestan... aagh!

Moonbeam - I am sure it will settle soon and as others have said you need to increase slowly - I would have stayed longer on the 75 mcg as 2 weeks isn't really long enough to know whether that dose works for you. Personally I would give it (the 75mcg patch) 6-8 weeks and you should notice a difference, and then if not increase to 100 mcg. No harm in staying on 100 mcg though if you can get used to it fairly soon.
