yearly Dr's consultations if on hrt
« on: March 23, 2014, 08:12:12 PM »

I keep reading that your Dr should be seeing you on a yearly basis if you are on hrt to keep an eye on things and make sure it is still the right treatment for you. I have been on hrt for 2 years now and have never been called back to the surgery or the menopause clinic for a consultation. What experience do you ladies have of this please.

You don't get a recall as such but when you ask for a repeat prescription the receptionist should be asking you to book in for a check with the practise nurse once a year at least!!
I'd book in to see the practise nurse - they just do weight and blood pressure and ask how you are feeling.  If you are feeling good on your HRT keep going.  If you are not happy with your HRT ask which of the doctors or nurses at the practise are specialising in meno and make an appointment with them.  DG x

I see my GP regularly he is colleague no formal checks as such. He knows I hate them. My records say patient to contact if she has any concerns and to check own BP and let me know if its high. When he took me on as a patient he said he would never bug me about anything. He also looked at this web site to prescribe Oestrogel and Utrageston  :)

Its brilliant I love my GP  :)

I have a six month blood pressure and weight check with the practise nurse. I have no choice if I want my repeat prescription.

I only see my GP if there is a problem.

Never been asked to come in when getting repeat prescription, and never questioned that i had put the patch up from 1/2 to a full one either, even though it still states 1/2 patch on hrt box. Come to think of it i am never asked to come in regarding any of my medication that i am on. Need to speak to surgery.

You really should have your blood pressure done every six months. My daughter only gets six months worth of the pill. No blood pressure check no new prescription.

All these routine health checks stress me out and then I get white coat hypertension I would far rather check my own BP.

Date on my prescriptions for reviews. I get 6 monthly BP checks, annual bloods & annual review after blood tests.  Meno clinic appointments too, when they check my BP & weight.

The other reason they do this is so they paid! Its called QOF and why BP, weight etc will be sent to the DH/Secretary of State for Health! The data is aggregated anonymous but its not the point GP's are not informed patients so are taking BP's etc without fully informed consent.

The DH can lost which is why my GP suggested I take my own BP.

High BP is not actually a contraindication in itself to HRT- but it's a sign possibly of more serious cardiovascular issues ( which would be an issue with HRT)that need investigating. There is no evidence that HRT raises blood pressure.

I think I prefer if I have problems I will shout. If I don't shout its fine to leave me alone.

I was due my "review" in Jan this year, due to family probs I've been so busy, the review got forgotten until I got my "call-up"  Went this morning, She'd noticed I'd not collected my latest lot of Fluoxetine, but as I was ok without it she wasn't worried, Weighed me... weight's up, did my blood pressure... that's off the scale, got to do twice daily blood pressure checks at home for a week to see if it's just "white coat syndrome" if it is no probs... but if it's constantly high I have to go back for meds.  Good to keep an eye on things I suppose and if I hadn't gone then I wouldn't be able to get another HRT script until I had. I guess it's good to be kept an eye on, saves bigger probs later maybe.
