Hello ladies

Many of you suggest thyroid checks when advising newbies like me with lots of questions.

Can I ask why and what are the symptoms of under or over active thyroid please ?

Thank you xxxx

Thyroid can cause hyper-activity or intense sleepiness ………. blood tests can determine if thyroid function is 'within normal limits' but a 'normal' result can require further testing.

Brilliant site - not come across that one before! Very well explained.

Just to add that it seems that many women experience problems with an underactive thyroid (even if mildly) at around the same time as peri-menopause or menopause. Not sure why. This is why docs do all the tests when women between say - 40 and 60 go to the doc with various symptoms, to try to sort out what's what and treat accordingly. Some of the symptoms of underactive thyroid are similar to those of oestrogen deficiency in menopause.

Look up the Breda Barnes temperature test which will give you a good idea if you have an underactive thyroid,

YOu have to take your temperature on waking before getting out of bed for 10 consecutive days ,if its much below average then likely your thyroid is underactive, my thyroid tests were borderline but were treated , my waking temp is now 36 and before treatment 33.7
