When you go for your Follow-up appt. ask why leaving an ovary ………. eases you into menopause perhaps?
Feet up, TV on?

Nice to hear from you anderina.
Even after menopause the ovaries continue to excrete a small amount of hormone so it is advised to leave them in if at all possible.
I think that you can only have the womb and cervix removed through the vagina and the ovaries have to be removed separately which may be why you had the laparoscopic procedure as well?

Hello Ladies

Here goes- all the post op probs start to rear their heads!
Is it usual for tongue and throat to feel strange (maybe from anaesthetic tube?)
Havent had BM yet although feel like i want to - should i be scared of pushing - can i burst stitches?

Have you joined any of the hysterectomy forums anderina? You might find some good advice on there re BM's etc. This is the UK one
http://forums.hysterectomy-association.org.uk/index.php'sid=9557e0a152132154f07599c05f86268b
As for boredom - I'm not sure what to suggest. Have you got any friends who could come over or have you got any hobbies?

Oh I remember my throat was very sore afterwards. Definitely the tubes, they don't put them in gently, that's for sure.
With regards to BM, I had that problem too. In fact GP was angry I'd been sent home before that had been reestablished. I was given some suppositories to help things along a bit. Maybe something like dulcoease would help you.

Re the BM - not sure if you've had children but I found when I had had stitches after several of my births I also had that problrem and was v worried about bursting open! I used to just sit there on the loo and relax and take slow deep breaths for however long it took, rather than push, and it seemed to work in the end, without mishap!
