Been thinking - does anybody know the answer to this: We all know that hrt replaces the hormones that are declining but what about your ovaries?  Do they shrivel up and stop producing hormones faster when you introduce hrt or doesn't it make any difference?

It doesn't make any difference.
We are all born with a certain number of ova. When they are gone, they are gone. That's why we all have different ages of meno.
It's running out of eggs that causes meno, not falling oestrogen levels- they are the result of no ova left and no cycles.
