Moon Bears and Bile Farming
« on: February 17, 2014, 08:56:49 AM »

This video is rather long so apologies but I just feel so angry that these bears are put through this. Thank goodness for the charities who are helping in their release and rehabilitation. More people should be aware of the cruelty we are putting them through. I know that worse things go on in the world but that doesn't mean we should turn a blind eye to things we may be able to change http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-eOlbWXJCY

I believe that Stephen Fry is involved?  It's been going on for years  :'(

I'm not sure that he is involved with Animals Asia CLKD but he might have talked about it before. Although it has been going on for years people are finally sitting up and taking notice and many bears have been rescued so far which is heartening. https://www.animalsasia.org/uk/

He did a film several years ago about bears and their plight was included. Of course I can't remember the name of the film  ::) ……… I can't understand cultures really believing that bile, ivory etc. can be health enhancing  >:(

They are slowly beginning to understand I think CLKD. This charity works tirelessly to bring education about moon bears to the younger generation in the hope that things will gradually change and the Chinese government are finally beginning to listen as well.

You are right about Stephen Fry - it is the same organisation. https://twitter.com/stephenfry/status/289343359363973120

I doubt if it will alter in our Life-time.  Too much money to be made  :'( - same with ivory poaching <sigh>

It's changing all the time CLKD - if we all think there is no chance of things altering then the bears are doomed to a life of misery. Things are changing!! This alone is heartening https://www.animalsasia.org/uk/media/news/news-archive/moon-bears-find-their-%E2%80%9Cvoice%E2%80%9D-on-prime-time-chinese-tv.html

Good news indeed that Chinese students are not coming on board to get bear bile farming banned https://www.animalsasia.org/intl/media/news/news-archive/chinese-students-pledge-to-end-bear-bile-farming.html

I love this - the final part about the bears rescued during New Year 2013 https://www.animalsasia.org/intl/media/news/news-archive/peter-and-shamrock-one-year-on.html  I love the video of peter and shamrock playing together.

Two more bears in the process of being rescued today from Vietnam - one is believed totally blind due to cataracts. https://www.animalsasia.org/intl/media/news/news-archive/thanh-hoa-rescue-timeline.html

Hopefully ever-increasing international exposure via the internet for Chinese youth will mean that this vile practice eventually dies out. Glad there's some positive news. Little by little.

The bears have arrived safely at the sanctuary. It's too late to introduce them to their new enclosure so they will remain in their travelling cages until the morning. The vet also made it safely back to the sanctuary.

I really admire the work these guys do - not an easy job requiring endless patience while paperwork etc. is sorted out let alone the physical side of things.

Not a Moon Bear but a Brown Bear. Iris was rescued almost four years ago from a dreadful bile farm. She was encased in a full metal jacket and still has the scars. http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/178341/Freed-from-the-cages-of-hell-the-full-metal-jacket-bears This is a short video of her playing at the sanctuary - it sort of lifted my spirits https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xZnHFSB7eY
