Menopause and hrt

Advise please

I am 43 years old and going through the menopause . I was on the contraceptive injection depo so my periods had stopped on that. I started getting awful symptoms in May the sweats , shaking and trembling inside , discharge that would soak my pyjamas at night , insomnia , constant need to go toilet , panic attacks,Diahorea  and anxiety . The Dr thought I may of been suffering from depression and maybe having a breakdown as was always crying but think where i was so scared as to what was wrong and would lay there for 2 nights in a row with no sleep .
I was not convinced i was just depressed as my mum went through early Menopause at 39 . As I was on depo injection we didn't know if i was peri menopausal as my periods had stopped 3 years ago on depo which is normal  . I went to a family planning clinic for the discharge as my Dr said maybe ibs and discharge was from Bottom which I knew it wasn't .  The clinic examined me and said your cervix is thinning I think Your going through the menopause which is causing the discharge .Also done a blood test where my fsh levels were menopause stage . My Dr said no blood test not accurate as depo would effect result . I believed the clinic and felt happy as finally thought this I why I feel so rotten im Not going mad or about to be sectioned ha ha . My Dr reluctantly gave me prempak low dose  which worked for 2-3 months but then symptoms slowly came back although not as bad so they upped the hrt dose To prempak 1.25 i was on the lower dose before .This was a month ago but I'm again having night sweats again and awful migraines which i cant cope with and slight anxiety  . I went back to the Dr who has switched me to another one premique . I read this is for ladies who have not had a period for 12 Months . I asked the dr will i still have periods on this one and she said yes . i read that you dont on this one so very confused . she did say the progesteoen part was different from
Prempak so may help with headaches but  worried the dose is low so my symptons will return ?Not sure if its right for me as I don't know if that applies to Me about no periods  dor 12
Months as my depo stopped periods . I have stopped depo in aug any advise would be great .

 :welcomemm:

why do we have to fight for everything, why don't GPs listen  :bang:

Have a read of the menus, left of screen.  There is a search button top left and I am sure ladies with experience will pop along shortly.

Thankyou . Have I posted in the right place here ? My Dr even joked they were going to get me my own bed in the surgery as I'm always there !! If only they knew what the menopause can feel like and get our meds right :) x

Hi choc70

 :welcomemm: from me too

Your doctor is wrong. Premique is a no bleed HRT as you thought and Prempak is for peri-menopausal women (ie not gone 12 months without a period). Yes the progestogens are different but Premique is for post-menopause.

It may well be that this type of HRT does not agree with you. It is the most artificial type - ie it is made from horse oestrogens and a synthetic progestogen.

Have a look at the menu on the left under HRT preparations and you will see all the different types listed for peri-menopause.
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/perimeno.php

Of the tablet HRT types Femoston 1/10 or 2/10 is the one that seems to be most well tolerated - and go back to the doc and ask for a chance. Try to see a doc that specilaises in menopause and HRT if possible!

Hope this helps.

Choc 70 I am so sorry that yet another person knows they are suffering & why but cannot get the right treatment.  I would read as much as possible here & go back to the GP & tell him/her what HRT you need to change to. You are not going mad I have had the gastric stuff the insomnia & the anxiety to the point I thought I was going mad. I am 51 & still have no HRT. You will get lots of help & advice here so armour yourself with knowledge & persist. I am so cross that so many people are suffering, we need more specialists in this area. I had no idea this is what peri would be like xx

The fact is that the body is missing a hormone or has too much of a particular hormone. This needs to be replaced or levelled out. If you have certain hormones and they worked for a short while a specialist should be able to narrow it down to what you need. Make sure you keep notes of all the products you have tried out in the past. Best to keep the leaflet and add dates when started and stopped. Keep notes or diary of how you feel every day. Hopefully this will help the doctors get it right.

Insist on seeing a gynecologist or a doctor specialising in menopause (preferably an older female doctor who also is in menopause stage herself). Men doctors, unless older and married to women who are in menopause have no idea.

Google on the internet for the best doctor near you. Or if you can afford it go private. In the end paying for all those pills etc, one could have gone private and spoken to an expert.

Inform yourself and fight to see a specialist. Dont let them try to give you Prozac and head pills like that. That only treats one symptom, not the actual cause.

Hi
Premique is a continuous HRT and you will not have a bleed. Read the section on this site about HRT as there is good info about the different types of HRT. I do hope you get things sorted out for you. You can always ask for a referral to a gynecologist if you don't get anywhere with your GP.

Good luck
