HRT - quantity prescribed
« on: February 03, 2014, 04:50:21 PM »

I have just started on Livial which I am finding helpful. After the 1st month my doctor prescribed another month's worth and put it on repeat. This means I have to pay £7.85 each month. Is there any reason why I can't be prescribed 3 months at a time, as seems to be the case for some HRT drugs?
I'm new to this site but am finding it very useful.

I don't know but there may be some limitations on how much can be prescribed on 1 script for safety reasons.

No reason why they cannot prescribe more I believe gp makes more money on monthly scripts.  Write a note with next request asking for 3 months worth.

We don't have to pay in Scotland, but I get 2 months at a time.

Would you find it beneficial to purchase a prepayment plan, it would reduce your costs a bit.

I always get six months although I am in Scotland too.

I have to go for a blood pressure test every six months before they will issue another prescription.

I get 3 months and although the meno clinic checks my b.p etc, the GP always does too.
They won't do more than 3 months though.

I'm taking Femoston 2/10 and have to pay double prescription charges so I make sure I get 6 months at a time.  I think the GP's don't want to prescribe too much in case you need to change HRT but if you intend to stay on the same for a while then I would ask for at least 3 months.

I have always had a few days short of six months and assumed this was normal if you were taking an HRT that suited you ok.

I'm in Scotland too and was only prescribed 1 month at a time. Maybe it's just different GPs. If I had to pay I would insist on 3 months though
