Splitting dose over the day to get a more even level
« on: January 24, 2014, 09:57:04 PM »

Hi everyone

I take Femoston 2/10 - one pill a day.
I hear that pills do not give as stable a level of hormone as patches, so, is it ok for me to cut my pill in half and take half twice a day, rather than one whole pill a day?

thanks

Does the pill have a line in the middle so you can break it in half? if it doesn't it probably isn't supposed to be split! You could always call a pharmacy to be on the safe side!

Have a great weekend!

You would really have to check with a pharmacist. I am not sure about HRT tablets but some pills are designed to release at a certain rate and if you split them then it can interfere with this.
Sorry I can't remember but is there a reason why you can't use patches and then you would nit have this problem.

Best to check but it's unlikely you'd come to any harm, if there is just one type of hormone in the tablet. Sometimes it's best not to cut tablets if they have a coating as the coating is there to give them slow release, and you may be advised not to chop them for this reason, but pharmacists tend to advise 'by the rule book' to be on the safe side.
