Most GP's can and will give a referral letter for you to be seen privately by a consultant, my GP even recommended the best one to see. , I know it is queue jumping because you see the same consultants in the NHS system as you do in private hospitals. But sometimes need must. Also you can ask what the consultation fee will be and when you can get an appointment in advance so you can decide if this is the route you want to take.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that where I'm from. I did get a referral to a specialist but have to wait my turn. We don't have that option here!
