help with dosage: maths is bad
« on: November 27, 2013, 07:37:19 PM »

I've been on 1 ⅓ Evorel 50 patches (2x week). I found it suited me better than the whole 75mg patch.
GP has just disappeared for 2 weeks, leaving me with a wonderful, 6 month prescription for 75mg patches.
I was going to ask for it to be changed, then thought why not cut a little bit off the 75mg patch instead, seeing as though I already cut the 50 patch into 3 bits.
Question is my maths is way too bad to work out how much I should be cutting off (a teeny bit?)
as I've worked out (I think) that I'm currently using 66mgs.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Oh heck, here goes.

Half 75 = 37.5
Half 37.5 = 18.75
Half 18.75 = 9.375
Total = 65.625

As near as I can get, but a lot of cutting involved.

Another way - if you cut one 75mg patch in half (37.5 x 2) and cut a second patch into 3 (25 x 3) you could stick on a half plus a third which should equal 62.5 mg. A bit less than your 66mgs but close enough perhaps.

Or, mentally divide the patch into quarters then cut off half a quarter. That would give you 66mgs. That will work regardless if your patch is square or round.

Thank you!
Bramble, you had me going "whaaaat" for a mo with the mental division!

Er, is it about 1/8th I should snip off? If I understand right, that would mean wasting the 1/8th?

Yep - it is an eighth going in the bin!

I cut mine too, but I find the smaller pieces tend to come off easy....one day they will just be gone!

How do you keep them on?

I'm still using up the last few 50s, so my ⅓ patch stays on easily. It gets chlorined a few days a week too. In fact it sticks so hard, I have to scrub with baby oil.
Not sure about a 1/8th though - we'll see.

Sounds very fiddly.

Yes, it does. However I already cut a patch into 3s, and lots of women use gel, so I suppose as hormones fluctuate daily anyhow, that you don't need exactly 66mg of oestrogen but there or thereabouts. Hopefully!
