I so wanted to say something.!!!!
« on: October 12, 2013, 03:50:24 PM »

I was in my local health food shop today. It was quite busy and the assistant was serving a woman in her 50s with alternative medicines for menopause.
I so wanted to point her towards the MM forum.

The thing that really made me chuckle was that the assistant was giving her a free gift that went along with the pills.
You will never guess what it was.     A FAN.  :o

Does not say much about how effective the supplements will be does it.

Hello honeybun.
Not only do I want to point other women to this site I often do! I've promoted this forum whilst talking to women in the street, greeting card shop, the post office and supermarket. Told GP about it too.  I should be on commission.
Take care.

Oh Honeybun
I know what you mean. All these books and experts that are exponents of the 'natural way' with things like childbirth, menopause etc. make me want to scream.  I feel they just make those who can't take the, so called,  'natural way' feel utterly guilty or a failure.  As we all keep saying  on this site, we are all different and genetics must play an enormous part in how our menopause effects us.
I have only recently found this site and it's been a godsend - I will be pointing everybody to it who needs better info and support.
I spent a fortune on alternative remedies when I went without HRT for three years - absolutely pointless.  I think they only work for those who don't actually get bad meno symptoms - in other words they should have saved their money - perhaps take a holiday instead.

I think every surgery should have a leaflet on the menopause giving details of this site for support. I've looked, there weren't any at my surgery.

I mentioned this site to one of my GP.
She said "yes, it's good isn't it I often look at it"    :)

I too tried the natural route from Black Cohosh to herbal tinctures to progesterone rub on cream but nothing helped until I discovered the next best thing, bio identicals, they gave me my quality of life back and now I just need to find my libido lol!

Hi Cassie
what Bio-identicals are you taking?  Are they safe to use long term?

Im on Oestogel and Utrogestan, used transdermally and vaginally, it depends what you classify as long term, I have been on them for many many years (early meno) but am only gonna start counting from 50 and my gynae said that I can push till 60 so I guess that is long term, they have less side effects than the tabs that I used to drink. Hurdity is the expert though, she may be along to answer the safety issue.

When I subscribed to the MM Mag I would hand it to the Practice Nurse at our Surgery, the same with the one I get from Ovacome.

Sorry Cassie
I misunderstood - I thought you had found a herbal remedy that had the same effects as HRT.
I've been on Oestrogel with a Mirena for over 4 years which has been good on the whole but the Mirena has to come out soon & I'll have a break from  HRT to see how symptoms are.  If i can continue HRT I will be trying your combo.  I'm 57 by the way - very, very post meno - peri from mid 30s and post from early 40s. Would like to continue HRT for as long as possible.

This site has been a god send for me ,it was a doctor at my local practice that gave me a card for address of this site and said it was really helpful and she was right I have felt so much better since being on the forum even just talking to people going through it all helps and checking out the feelings and symptoms you have and having other people experiencing the same makes you fell normal and you realise you not losing your marbles  :P I have also been passing on the details and I hope that people have the same great and invaluable advice and genuine caring I have had from the wonderful ladies that replied to me  you know who you are and each and every one of you are stars :clapping:

Cassie, can I ask how much Utrogestan you take and for how long?   I only use 100mg vaginally for seven days but its not giving me a reliable bleed....don't think its enough...

I have upped mine to 12 days as I was also a bit worried re 7 days not being long enough, am seeing the gynae next month will report back, hope that he lets me stay on the 100mg, the 200mg is very heavy for me, get Tinnitus and bloating, insomnia etc. I def get a bleed on even 7 days, how long do you bleed for and why do you think that it is unreliable, is it heavy etc, do you have regular scans of the uterus? Some Drs are quite happy to prescribe 7 days of 100mg as long as you have regular scans.

Ive only been on HRT for around 11 months....perimenopausal at 50.   I have had a very slight bleed in the past while on this regime and then last time it was a tiny bleed , only saw a tiny smear of it.   I also had a break thru bleed about 8 weeks ago that was a normal, quite heavy bleed.   I havnt had any scans yet .  Can you tell me what happens and what is the cost?  PM me if you prefer...thanks
