Propanolol and Citalopram - When to take them?
« on: July 22, 2013, 03:38:06 PM »

Just been to the docs and have been given Citalopram 20mg (upped dose from 10mg) and Propanolol 80mg - when is the best time to take 'em to get through the day?
Any help appreciated

Hi grumpy
I take my Ad just before i go to bed as they made me very sleepy and a bit dizzy when i started taking them. Not sure about propanolol though,  no experience of those.

Have you had the propanolol before or is this a new prescription?

Perhaps you've just answered your own question - if they are making you drowsy, take them at night?

I take 5mg of Citalopram and a 40mg BB 9.00 p.m. whilst in the bath.  Another 5mg of Citalopram with breakfast.  If necessary another BB with breakfast but it does make my head feel woozy  ::)

Thanks for that - the Dr upped my dose of Citalopram from 10mg to 20mg and I think its a bit much to be honest as the increase seems to make me more anxious strangely enough. The Propanolol are 80mg capsules so I dont have much choice other than to take just the one! Not sure about when to take it though. Maybe I will do the same as you and take the Citalopram (cutting it in half probably so I take 10mg in the morning and 10mg at night) and the BB in the morning?
Thanks anyway X

What doseage are your Citalopram.  Cutting them in half doesn't work because there is only a small amount of active ingredient  ;) - the rest is padding  ::)

You could try 1 x 20mg at night - do you have any 10mg left?  You could then add a 1 x 10mg in the morning and 1 x 20mg that night ...... ease your brain and stomach into accepting the new doseage.  20mg is the start up dose  :-\  ::) but I could never tolerate it completely.  Hence the 5mg a.m./p.m.

it is often a choice of self medicating to get it 'right'.  80mg are a start up dose too, once you have stabilised you may find that your GP will half the doseage!
