Hi everybody this is my first posting. I am 55 and not sure where I am with regards to the menopause. I had a hysterectomy about 18 years ago I retained my ovaries so no period to guide me. I have had night sweats for over 2 years and for the past month or so I have had a fuzzy head and also started to have a few hot flushes during the day. I have taken sage for over a year not sure it's made any difference at all. I have also started to feel anxious which I never did before. Any suggestion on a way forward would be appreciated I would even consider hrt on a temporary basis to make me feel better. Thank you for reading

Hi and welcome.  I have started HRT due to anxiety/mood swings which I never had before.  I'm 45 and in perimenopause, which I think has been going on for a couple of years now.  I would go to your Doc and have a chat and maybe try some HRT for a few months and see if that helps.

Anxiety is definitely a big problem for a lot of women on here.

Hi - welcome to the forum from me too.

HRT can help with most meno symptoms and loads of us on here have started off thinking we will "beat" it naturally but then have started HRT and been so grateful that we did. Can I ask why you would consider it only on a temporary basis? It keeps lots of things in good working order - although you may still have to go through the symptoms eventually when you stop HRT - probably at 60 if your GP is anything like mine - but you could have five years of feeling much better.

Have a good look around the forum especially the menu on the left of the screen where different types of HRT or alternative remedies are listed. You will find lots of support on here whatever you decide.

Hi

I am 55 and have been on hrt for 2 years and it has helped me with the anxiety. I have been on a few but am currently on gel and utrogestan.

I tried all sorts of herbal remedies before hrt and although some of them helped for a while eventually I went to the gp with all sorts going on.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Shrpye

I too had a hysterectomy years ago - when I was 27 ........ 35 years ago !  I began suffering dizzy spells, extreme tiredness, bowel problems and hot sweats 15 years ago and when I asked my doctor if it could be the menopause, she shrugged her shoulders and said 'It may be' and sent me on my way.  Finally, when we moved to France, my Doctor suggested I try Hrt as I was feeling really rough and so tired.  I was prescribed Estradose gel and although I still have the hot flushes (though less of them), I sleep well at night and cope so much better.  Certainly I would say 'give it a try'

Hi

Thank you for your replies all advise is very welcome and as I have read time and time again it's good to know that I am not alone. I have an appointment with the dr at beginning of July its female dr in her late forties so I am hoping that she understands at least a little as to how I am feeling. Is there a more suitable hrt for a someone with no uterus but still has overies?

Thank you

Hi shrpye

Welcome from me too. As you have had a hysterectomy you can just pick whatever you like and whatever method you like - for most of us the problem is finding a progestogen that agreeds with us and doesn't cause side effects.

I have only ever used patches - mostly Estradot and we all have our favourite methods. I would tend to steer clear of Premarin as this is contains horse oestrogens rather than estradiol that is bio-identical to ours. Transdermal methods (patch or gel) mean the oestrogen goes straight into the system and doesn't have to go through the liver - so more of it gets through.

Go for it - you have nothing to lose and as Taz says - everything to gain regarding your future health.

Just want to know if anyone has had the same experiences as me I have been on Kilogest for 10yrs and it was fantastic. Now I am having problems with night sweats and vaginal dryness. I tried estragon in cream form but was so ill with it that I had to stop. I had racing pulse, headaches and nausea. My doctor seems to think that my body has become 'used' to the dosage of HRT and not working as well as before. I also feel terribly cold during the day which contrasts with the night sweats  :'(
I would be so glad to hear from anyone with similar problem and how and if they worked it out.

Hi again Shrpye

I had hysterectomy, no uterus, no cervix but still have ovaries.

Estrogen only prescribed in gel format.  No need for progesterone in my case

Hi Meggie

Thank you for your reply, is there benefits from having estrogen only? Hrt is very confusing.

Some women have problems with the progesterone element - mood swings, pmt type symptoms (I'm one of them unfortunately) and oestrogen only also carries less risk of breast cancer.

Hi

Me again, is it just me or is it the good old symptoms raising their ugly head again? I seem to have good days and less night sweats I think yessss its going then the next day wham back down again. My neck hurts my back hurts I seem to have more heartburn than I ever did, I get the dizzies then break out into the hottest flush ever. I see a Dr who specialises in gyno issues on 9th July and I cant wait. I wish I could go to bed one night at 10.30 wake up at 7.30 and think that was such an amazing sleep instead I wake 7-10 times a night and think I am going to be tired tomorrow. Its like a roundabout you get on but cant get off. Thanks for reading my rant x

Hi shrpye

This all sounds so familiar - don't know whether you are coming or going !

It is a most distressing time and extremely debilitating in certain circumstances but if you are able to use hrt I would certainly give it a try.  I'm so glad I did.

Hi Meggie

Thank you for your reply. I am certainly going to discuss and hopefully give it a try. Do you think the patches for estrogen only are better than the tablets? Do you have any side effects from the HRT
