Hi everyone

Not sure whats going on down below, been having cystitus like symptoms which come and go.  Took water sample to gp's which came back normal.  Stopped drinking caffeine but still getting this burning feeling every so often.  Sometimes it doesn't bother me for a couple of days then it comes back for an hour or so especially when I've been stood up or walking more.  No other symptoms at all, no dryness or pain. 

Is this the start of VA, should I go to gp's if it continues and will he need to give me an internal examination?

From reading info on here I thought bladder problems and VA didn't rear its head until much further along when post menopausal.  I'm nearly 51 and 2 years on hrt.

Your thoughts would be most helpful.

I had this when I was your age and still having regular periods.  Dr gave me Vagifem for VA and it improved a lot.

Meno can be a long haul, sounds like you're at the beginning of it.

Like Millie, I had problems when I was still having regular (pill induced) bleeds.
Dryness / VA problems can strike early on.
If I'd known then, what I know now, I would have been strongly requesting local vaginal oestrogen.

I was 51 when it became particularly tedious.

I've recently been prescribed Orthogynest for really sudden, bad vaginal atrophy .......... which was preceded by intermittent urine 'infections'  ......  if the sample is 'clear' then it is probably VA and it won't do any harm to treat it as such.

It certainly sounds like the start of ATROPHY GO GO GO get it sorted do not under any curcumstaces
Do what I did leave it for 2 years I buggared myself up so go asap xxxxxxx

Hi ladies
Thanks for all your replies. Was really hoping you were gonna tell me something different - wishful thinking.

Can my gp confirm by examination that its definitely atrophy or do they just go by symptoms. I dont want to start using something down below if its not that.

Its not giving me much discomfort yet and it comes and goes so i may wait awhile and just see what happens, maybe have another urine test first. I'm not one for suffering so if it does get any worse i'll see my gp asap.

What will you gain with another urine test?  Speak with your GP or Practice Nurse .......... by the time it was diagnosed my vagina was feeling like I was sitting on razor blades with glass up there    ........ I couldn't leave the house because I needed to pee constantly and the medication took a week to 'kick in'.

If there's dry skin down there they can see it.
Think this counts as VA, especially at 51.
That's how I was diagnosed, and I'd said nothing about VA.
I had been getting UTI type symptoms at the same time,
they had only proved borderline when GP did strip test in the urine.

It might not  be giving you "much discomfort" yet.
Don't know what will happen if you leave it........

I nor my GP realised - it became acute (see thread, of course can't remember the name of it  ) ........ so prevention being better than cure?

If there is no infection then it sounds like VA to me.
Your symptoms were exactly the same as mine. I thought it was a urine infection but it wasnt and I also did not have any dryness or pain
The doc gave me an internal and it felt very tender inside especially when she pressed on the uretha
She prescribed Ovestin and once that kicked in after a fortnight or so all the symptoms abated

ANY GP Can tell you just by looking not n internal they just look AT THE  area
they can tell btsts ALLL THAT Maybe to chjeck col sugar but its the fanny u need ok x
