Getting glucose infusions now. She is so gorgeous! She's responding to touch, sound, has strong grip and very strong legs.  It was a relatively quick birth but not excessively so.  They are hopeful that things will settle soon.  All other tests are clear. Phew!  Her poor dad was in quite a state the other night though, totally in pieces apparently. Bless. He's keeping off the internet! I've told him it's relatively common, but not sure that's reassured him.

Aw she sounds beautiful CG :)

No idea what glucose infusions are for but hope she is soon out of hospital and home for good.

Thinking of you and your family CG.  Such a high stress time, but looks very hopeful that this transient hypoglycemia will pass.  In US babies had to be monitored longer when the mom had gestational diabetes. But lately everyone has to leave hospital so much sooner than in the past.  A shame.
Hoping each day brings more calm and happiness.  Poor Dad, harder for them to show emotions and something like this shows how we are all the same with fear for our loved ones.

:bang:  Little sister had problems after birth and yet they allow the new mum and small sister home in FOUR HOURS  :cuss:

Hopefully by now the small sister will be improving and parents and grandparents will be more relaxed  :tulips:

Becoming much more alert on the dextrose infusions. They are going to alter gradually until she is taking more & more milk and less dextrose. They remain very hopeful.

Our gorgeous little granddaughter may be in hospital for quite some time. Infusions work fine, but the minute she comes off them, she "crashes" again. When awake she's very alert and responds to sight and sound and is very strong physically.  She has been referred to endocrinologist, who at this time is unsure of cause. However, it is very rare and may involve surgery further down the line. It's very upsetting and worrying. I'm staying down meantime as big sister is finding it hard with mum & dad constantly being at the hospital.
Will keep you posted when I get the chance.
Meantime keep your fingers crossed for everyone.

Hi Cubagirl.  I have just seen and read this thread.  I don't know how I missed it.

Firstly congratulations on your granddaughter.  I am sure she is absolutely gorgeous.

I am sorry to hear she has had some early difficulties.  My friend's daughter had gestational diabetes and was in hospital for a while.  I realise your situation seems to be different but I am pleased to see she is being referred to specialists and I hope they identify the cause very soon.

What a joy to look forward to when she gets home.

Hello CB, so sorry for the complications.I just keep thinking that baby's organs are immature and aren't fully doing their job.  Hopefully she will adapt over the next week or so.  I hope and pray she will come around soon and be able to maintain her glucose levels.  So glad the endo will be consulting.  Thank goodness you are there to lend physical and emotional support.  Will be fervently hoping for good news in your next posts.  Stay strong.
