Little House on the Prairie.

Heidi.

The Famous Five books by Enid Blyton.

World at War magazines that Dad collected.

Twinkle comics. First one I got came with a free gold coloured ring that turned my finger green.

Collecting Scraps in a scrap book. Angels and fairies were my favourite.

Chinese ropes.

Whip and peerie. Colouring the top of the peerie (wooden spinning top) with different coloured chalks.

Z Cars.

Dr Finlays Casebook.

The Partridge Family in particular David Cassidy!

Captain Pugwash.

Ah, these were the days!

I remember the Twinkle comic Anne and used to love when it was a ring as a free gift - we were easy pleased bairns compared to them now!

I progressed on to the Jackie as I got older and remember Lesley Ash or her sister were often on the cover.

Oh yes the Jackie. Thought it was really risqué.
It's true we were easily pleased back in the day.

I remember getting a Texas Instrument calculator the size of a large brick to replace using a slide rule and thought it was amazing.

Ah the slide rule! Always a complete mystery to me. I never could work it out. They didn't last long did they?

Our maths teacher wouldn't let us use slide rules.  Said we had to do the full calculations on paper, without help.  Kids wouldn't survive these days without a calculator!  ???

Oh the Jackie, we used to be in local shop when it opened on the day it came out so that we could read on the bus on way to school.  The boys were desperate for us to hurry up so they could get a look too!

Mirabelle was the mag I moved onto after Jackie, anyone remember that one?

I know my Dad used a slide rule for many years as a draughtsman but I only remember using one for a short period of time. Thank goodness because I think it would have taken an Einstein brain to work one properly.
We had to do manual calculations on paper as well. I found this easier than having to use the dreaded slide rule.

I remember Mirabelle as well. My big sister got it but I used to sneak into her room to have a peek when she was out.

I had Jackie too and I think it was from there that I got a Lady Penelope locket with a mirror inside so you could "spy" on people behind you! I remember secretly watching the rest of the class behind me (as if they couldn't see me doing it  ::) )

At school, teacher decided to introduce the slide rule. She wanted to compare the speed of using a slide rule, to that of using log tables, we had been using log tables for a bit.

Two  girls were selected and received appropriate training, i.e one minute for the slide rule girl.
The problem was set and........  nothing happened, then people started laughing.  We were twelve, didn't hear much about slide rule for a while after that.

Cubagirl.
Hate to admit but I found a dirty mag at the bottom of my Dad's wardrobe. I was horrified but kept going back for more looks. I think I was about 12 and totally mystified by it all.
It must have traumatised me because I remained 'untouched and intact' till I was in my 20s.
