I would never have got that answer Fluerie but now you have given the answer I can see how you got there.  Any more to stretch our brains?

I also do Suduko's and find them reasonably easy to do with the exception of the very difficult ones - my husband is good at those.

I also like the crosswords that have a mixture in them of straight, cryptic, and general knowledge questions.

back to the shitzu one...beg to differ with him/her wot set the clue. Zoo with penguins = shitzu. Penguins do "guano" the way pigeons do - or worse as it's bigger. My fav beach when I was a kid in Cape Town has become a penguin colony. It's knee deep in penguin poo these days so no-one can swim there any longer

I am useless at cryptic or sudoku. Brain just hurts trying to work them out, then I give up

Maybe it is just matter of opinion Silverlady - the crossword writer thinks a zoo is 'shit' if it doesn't have penguins
in it !

I do a lot of crossword puzzles.  Does anyone else get annoyed at clues that relate to non-real things, i.e. elf, imps, Shakespearean characters ………… 

I know it's to fill in gaps in order to make a grid ………..

I bought a book recently that had the answers printed in the first 5 grids  then repeated without the answers in the next 5 pages ………. good for the memory maybe?

But the irritating elf, imps etc.; I don't want imaginary critters in my clues
