Hi Roney
Like you I didn't want to go down the HRT route but things got so dire.Couldn't enjoy a walk or sport beacasue of the pain and itching and constant wanting the loo.
Vagifem has transformed things... still odd itchy day but have to say I am no longer thinking about my AV. Quality of life is what I have now. Vagifem is also topical so much lower dose than pills or patches and delivered straight to wear it is needed.
Good luck whatever you decide.

Hi RoneyC

I suffer from VA and did not like the idea of taking HRT but when the consultant said that I would have to take Vagifem probably for the rest of my life I was worried. But in the end the constant pain and bladder problems were takking over my life and not a day went by when I was not thinking of my VA  :-\
The Consultant said that it was and extremely low dose and does not get into the blood stream like the 'full on' HRT, in the end I did not see any other choice really. As Suzi says, it is your body, your choice, I hope this helps.

Good luck......

Well....this is my first time on a forum and I've finally found the courage to try Ortho-Gynest cream having had the prescription since December! My husband has been sooo supportive of me, but I've been suffering with dryness for ages & ages now. This has got to the point where sex is so sore (as in sandpaper vagina) which stops you wanting sex, to avoiding it, to avoiding any physical contact with my husband....just in case it might might just lead to sex. The dreaded dryness! History is menopause at 40, HRT for 12 years, off HRT for 5 years, hot flushes continue...aren't they just wonderful! but not as bad as they used to be! Only a few a day and then the night ones too! But it could be worse.....SO....
have tonight tried the cream for the first time! I will let you know how it goes....feeling optimistic....

YIPPPEEE GARDEN GIRL
it will take a few weeks so dont have sex for a couple of weeks
Let your fanny heal inside and let the HRT cream work
AND maybe mid June it will be whooppyy dooo time and it will be nice

Welcome to RoneyC!
 :welcomemm:
I have to admit, despite my nursing background, I was totally unprepared for this vaginal dryness malarky!
Especially since it's more than dryness- sometimes just lubricant isn't enough.

My symptoms aren't that bad, apart from when sex is involved.
I was determined not to have systemic HRT, but am OK about vagifem.

So far no side effects and my GP is enlightened enough not to insist on a regular break- I have just started into my fourth month.

This forum is absolutley Brill!

Oh- Suzi Q- put him down and give the poor man a rest!
Just cos your bits are feeling good, don't wear them out! :bed:

Vagifem for me, despite my gynae being against the idea due to a rare hormone receptive tumour.  However, so little is absorbed that it shouldn't make a difference to tumour size and he has let me stay on it as it's making my life so much better - MRI has shown slight increase in tumour size tho recently, we are going to keep an eye of it just in case it is the vagifem making it grow

The old dryness problem had a positive for me as it made me feel incredibly horny for the first time in years! ::) After being prescribed Vagifem by my Gp  at least sex is comfy, but I'm still wanting more than I'm getting !!!!!!!!!! :-*

If you find an answer, do let me know as I'm in the same boat!  I also know that quite a few ladies on this site could also do with a break :-\ :-\
