I love New Years Eve or Old Years Night as we use to call it.

I make a lovely White chocolate trifle.

Cor Dyan, that sounds scrummy!  Is it just regular trifle with white choc drops in it or is it more complicated?  Do tell!

That reminds me of when I was a little girl when our grandparents lived with us.  I was supposed to take care of my bedroom and dust it once a week.  My grandmother used to write "Dust me" in the dust on top of my dressing table as a reminder when I forgot.

I feel a bit wierd and split over Christmas this year - my Dad is terminally ill with oesphogeal cancer, and while I don't think there's any danger of him not being here at Christmas, it definitely be his last one and he can't eat solid food.  And my Mum has Parkinson's and a crumbled vertebrae due to osteoporosis (she wished she'd listened to me now when her told her she needed to go on HRT when she was post-menopausal by the age of 42, but she wold never even consider it) and can't manage even a single doorstep, never mind a flight of stairs.  I LOVE cooking Christmas dinner and have done a big dinner for as many people as possible for as long as I can remember, but this year ... Mum can't get into our house or manage the stairs to the loo, and Dad can't eat the food so I can't go to their bunglalow and do dinner there.  So Christmas at home will be strange 

But we have a static caravan on the East Coast - we can't go for Christmas itself (would love to) because I can't leave Mum and Dad alone for Dad's last Christmas, but it already feels 'festive' on-site.  We'll be putting the tree up at the caravan this weekend (as we'll only be there 3 more times before Christmas) and I feel like enjoying the time there - but feel guilty for enjoying something my parents can no longer be part of.

Scampi use the time at the caravan to enjoy Christmas. You have such a lot to deal with it will be a boost for your system and help you through caring for your parents. See it as a medicine and not a guilt trip

Scampi your post was humbling, I am so sorry, I hope you are able to enjoy to enjoy your time at the caravan, you really deserve it.

Perhaps we should all just forget the commercialism and the need to provide a perfect Christmas and just enjoy spending time with those we love.  That's the message of Christmas I like to hold onto.

Your parents will be focussed on their problems and probably won't envisage what you are likely to be doing whilst at the caravan.  It's your World, they are busy with their own.  Use it as a talking point when you get back, they know you go there? so it will bring some fresh air into their World.  Even if it's how cold it was on the beach  .
