How can an earthquake influence the weather?

It may not affect the weather directly, but it does wake some people up early.
They see the state of the weather and hear the dawn chorus.
A tenuous link perhaps...

I seem to remember something about volcano eruptions affecting the weather - not sure though

We live about 40 ish miles from the earthquake, somebody in our local had heard the noise, but he was awake anyway as he has to get to work early. Something woke me up but I don't remember hearing anything. Certainly don't remember the earth moving   ::)

Update - There has been speculation that earthquakes cause weather changes - apparently a link has been found between atmospheric pressure - changed by geological activity - and temperature. However this my be correlation rather than causation

Volcanoes  definitely effect the weather  http://www.rmets.org/weather-and-climate/weather/how-can-volcanoes-affect-weather

example

Mt. Tambora, Indonesia
 April 10 - 15, 1816
 Death Toll: 92,000

The eruption of Tambora killed an estimated 92,000 people, including 10,000 from explosion and ash fall, and 82,000 from other related causes.

The concussion from the explosion was felt as far as a thousand miles away. Mt. Tambora, which was more than 13,000 feet tall before the explosion was reduced to 9,000 feet after ejecting more than 93 cubic miles of debris into the atmosphere.

The effects of the eruption were felt worldwide: 1816 became known as the “year without a summer” because of the volcanic ash in the atmosphere that lowered worldwide temperatures. It snowed in New England that June, and crop failures were common throughout Northern Europe and North America. As many as 100,000 additional deaths from starvation in these areas are thought to be traced to the eruption.

The next Icelandic volcano eruption will its said cause major weather problems

Yes I know that volcanoes affect weather because of the ash cloud but didn't think that earthquakes did.

Thanks Silverlady

I had just been wondering if a geological activity, like a volcano could affect weather, then why not an earthquake.

In NZ where they do earthquakes - people have talked about earthquake weather.

If geological activity, affects atmospheric pressure which then affects temperature, that looks like weather being affected by earthquakes. The thing is, is it correlation or causation?

But hey ho it's all speculation anyway  ::)

Haar is a low lying sea mist.

Cuba Girl is Scottish East coast and they get a lot of that up there.

I am Scottish West Coast and we call it bloody drizzle

Nah it's water hanging in the air you have HB.  ;D Bloomin'  horrid stuff it is too. I remember it so well. Not sure whether it's  your drizzle or our haar  which is worst.

Anyway nice day today in the northeast.
